Celebrating historic election wins for Democrats in Georgia
The Erica-Denise Solomon campaign is thrilled with Tuesday night’s historic election results in Georgia.
The victories by Democrats Peter Hubbard and Alicia Johnson, who unseated two Republicans on the Georgia Public Service Commission, should be celebrated as we honor the incredible achievements of candidates who have broken new ground in the state.
Tuesday night’s PSC election was the first to be held for the five-member commission since 2022. With their wins, Johnson and Hubbard become the first Democrats to win a non-federal statewide election in Georgia in nearly 20 years. Johnson’s win is especially historic, as she becomes the first Black woman to hold a statewide executive title in Georgia.
The victories for Hubbard and Johnson coincided with Election Day victories by Democrats across the country — proof that perseverance, organizing, and community connection can create real change.
“It’s inspiring to witness what unity and purpose can accomplish when people come together for something bigger than themselves,” Erica-Denise Solomon said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Solomon’s campaign for Georgia State Senate District 35 continues. The special election to fill the vacant seat is on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and all residents of the District are encouraged to make a plan to vote. Early voting is currently open until Friday, Nov. 14.
